Strategic Environmental Assessment
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is the process by which environmental considerations are required to be fully integrated into the preparation of Plans and Programmes and prior to their final adoption.
The objectives of the SEA process are to provide for a high level of protection of the environment and to promote sustainable development by contributing to the integration of environmental considerations into the preparation and adoption of specified Plans and Programmes.
Following the requirements of the EC Directive 2001/42, SEA and Sustainability Appraisals (SA) are being approached in various sectors to help improve the environmental sustainability of public plans and programmes and to provide an assessment of the interaction of existing plans and programmes in combination with the proposed project.
ECOFACT follow the legislative requirements and available guidelines for undertaking these assessments. We can provide:
- Baseline and Scoping reports as a precursor to a full SEA
- Assessment of alternatives
- EIA/EIS
- Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA)
- Mitigations and Monitoring Schedules
- Full SEA
ECOFACT’s experience in strategic environmental assessment and planning is applied to all SEA projects undertaken for both public and private sector clients.
