Ecofact has carried out a range of bird surveys, including breeding bird surveys using methodologies such as the Common Bird Census (CBC) and Breeding Bird Survey (BBS). We also carry out bird surveys for a range of specific species of bird, such as Hen Harrier at proposed wind farm sites. In addition we undertake surveys for wintering and non-breeding species based on methodologies such as the Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS). Such surveys have included surveys of wintering Whooper Swans and Greenland-white fronted geese at proposed wind farms in the Irish midlands.
Our team of dedicated ornithologists
Our team of dedicated ornithologists have extensive knowledge of bird surveys and methods for:
- Breeding bird surveys
- Common Bird Census including territory mapping
- Flight line surveys (vantage point) for wind farm appraisals
- Annual monitoring (both long and short term) of sensitive sites
- Wintering bird surveys
- Coastal and wading bird surveys
- Farmland bird surveys
- Mapping and transect surveys
We also have extensive experience of bird protection legislation, along with Impact Assessment for bird populations and habitats. Moreover, we have unparalleled experience in the design and implementation of a wide range of mitigation measures for birds; including habitat management plans, compensatory / mitigatory habitat proposals, and bird habitat enhancement measures.
We also have extensive experience of Collision Risk Modelling (CRM) and provide this for all sites that we assess for proposed wind energy developments. We are also at the forefront in bringing new bird monitoring and mitigation systems to Ireland, including the Merlin Avian Radar System.
